Do You Need Windows to Download Games for Acekard 2?

No. You can prepare a microSD card for Acekard 2 on Windows, macOS, or Linux.

How It Works

  • Acekard 2 uses a standard microSD card (FAT32 formatted).
  • You copy game files (.nds) and the kernel (AKAIO, Wood, etc.) to the card via any OS with a card reader.
  • No proprietary software or Windows-only tools required for basic file copying.

macOS/Linux Considerations

  • Kernel Updates: Download latest AKAIO/Wood kernel from official sites (accessible via any browser).
  • File Management: Use Finder (macOS) or file manager (Linux) to drag-and-drop files.
  • Hidden Files: macOS creates ._ resource forks and .DS_Store—delete these from the card before use (Terminal: dot_clean /Volumes/SDCARD).
  • Homebrew Tools: Some advanced tools (save editors, ROM trimmers) are Windows-only, but alternatives exist (e.g., ndstool cross-platform).

Recommended Workflow (Any OS)

  1. Format microSD as FAT32 (32 GB+ use exFAT, but FAT32 safer for DS).
  2. Extract kernel ZIP to card root.
  3. Create /games folder, add .nds files.
  4. Safely eject, insert into Acekard 2, boot on DS.

Windows is convenient but not required. macOS/Linux work fine with basic file operations.
