Can Lenovo ThinkPad T400 Handle Gaming? No – 2008 Business Ultraportable, Not a Gaming Machine

No. The T400 (2008) is a business ultraportable—not a gaming machine.

Hardware Limits

• GPU: Intel GMA 4500MHD (integrated) or ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 (128 MB) — neither runs modern games.
• CPU: Core 2 Duo P8xxx/T9xxx (2C/2T, ~2.5–2.8 GHz) — bottlenecks modern titles.
• RAM: 4 GB max (DDR3) — insufficient for modern OS + game.
• Cooling: Thin chassis, single fan — throttles instantly under load.

What Might Run (Low/720p/30 fps)

• Pre-2010 games: Half-Life 2, Portal, TF2, WoW (old), Mass Effect 1.
• 2D/indie: Stardew Valley, Terraria, Undertale, Papers, Please.
• Emulation: NES–N64, PS1, Dreamcast (via RetroArch).

Verdict

For any 3D game post-2010: unplayable. Buy a modern laptop with discrete GPU (RTX 3050+/RX 6600M+) for gaming.
