Playing StarCraft Multiplayer: Laptop + 2 Desktops – LAN & Online Setup

Method 1: LAN (Local Network) – Best Performance

Wired (Ethernet) – Recommended

  1. Connect all three devices to the same router via Ethernet cables.
  2. Ensure all have IP addresses in same subnet (DHCP default).
  3. In StarCraft: Multiplayer → Local Area Network (UDP) → Create Game / Join Game.
  4. Host creates; others join. No internet needed after initial auth (if using Battle.net for auth).

Wireless (Wi-Fi) – Works But Less Stable

  • All on same SSID, 5GHz preferred.
  • Latency spikes possible; QoS on router helps.

Method 2: Online via Battle.net (Modern / Remastered)

  1. All devices: StarCraft: Remastered installed, logged into Battle.net (same region).
  2. One player creates a Custom Game lobby (Map, settings, slots).
  3. Invite friends via Battle.net friends list or share lobby name.
  4. Others join as clients. Host starts when ready.
  5. Each runs own game instance; Battle.net relays state.

Key Requirements for Both

  • Identical Game Version: All patched to same build (Remastered auto-updates).
  • Firewall Exceptions: Allow StarCraft.exe / SC2_x64.exe inbound/outbound (TCP/UDP 6112, 6113, 6118, 40000–40100).
  • Stable Internet (Online): 5+ Mbps, <50ms ping to Battle.net server.
  • System Requirements Met: Even Remastered needs decent GPU for 4K.

Summary

  • LAN: Connect all to router (wired best). Host/Join via UDP.
  • Online: Battle.net lobby, host/client model.
  • Simultaneous Play: Each device runs the game, connected to same session.

Pick the method matching your setup. Enjoy the matches—GL HF!
