Transferring Call of Duty: World at War to a New PC—Legal Options Only

There is no legal way to transfer a Call of Duty: World at War (CoD5) installation from one PC to another without purchasing the game again or using your original license key on the new system.

Why Direct Transfer Doesn't Work

  • Account-Bound Licenses: Modern PC games (Steam, Battle.net, Microsoft Store) tie the license to your account, not the hardware. You simply log in on the new PC and download.
  • DRM Protection: CoD5 uses DRM (SecuROM on disc, Steam/Activision on digital) that binds installation to specific hardware IDs and requires online activation.
  • Registry & System Files: Windows applications scatter registry entries, libraries, and user data across the system—copying the folder alone won't work.

Risks of Unauthorized Transfer

  • Account Ban: Violates Steam/Activision Terms of Service; can lead to permanent loss of your library.
  • Legal Consequences: Copyright infringement may result in civil penalties.
  • Malware Risk: "Cracked" transfers often bundle malware.

Legal Ways to Play on a New PC

  1. Digital Owners (Steam/Battle.net): Install the client on the new PC, log in, and download from your library.
  2. Physical Disc Owners: Insert the disc, enter the product key when prompted (or redeem on Steam if the key is compatible—many CoD5 keys activate on Steam).
  3. Check for Digital Code: Some retail boxes included a Steam/Activision code for digital redemption.
  4. Repurchase on Sale: CoD5 frequently drops to $5–$10 on Steam during seasonal sales.

Respecting licensing ensures developers get paid and keeps your account safe. Just log in and download—it's faster than any "transfer" workaround.
