Playing Sega Master System Games on Genesis: Requires Power Base Converter

Sega Master System cartridges do not work directly in a Sega Genesis.

Why

• Different Cartridge Slots: Genesis slot is wider; Master System carts are smaller and physically incompatible.
• Incompatible Architecture: Different CPU (Z80 vs 68000), VDP, memory map—games are coded for specific hardware.

Workarounds

• Sega Power Base Converter (Master System Converter): Official adapter (rare, $50–$150) plugs into Genesis cartridge slot, accepts Master System games. Works on Model 1 & 2 Genesis.
• Emulation: Use Kega Fusion, Genesis Plus GX, or RetroArch on PC to play Master System ROMs legally (if you own the carts).

Direct play isn't possible, but these methods let you enjoy Master System classics on Genesis hardware or modern devices.
