Room Swap
Let two friends swap rooms and surprise each other with a newly decorated room. Have girls meet a few days prior to the room swap to discuss what kind of room they want. Include ideas about specific colors, patterns and themes. Create a budget and get moms to help with purchasing the materials and decorating the rooms. Swap rooms on a Saturday or a day when both girls can dedicate the entire day to decorating. No peeking! Room reveals should be a surprise.
Videotape each big reveal so you capture the girls' reactions when they see their room for the first time. Celebrate the new designs with a fun tea party with moms or a sleepover in one of the girl's rooms.
Picture This
Let each girl draw a picture of her dream room. Include colors, themes and any accessories in the pictures and tell the girls that they are only limited by their imagination. Collect the drawings and select one. Tell the girls not to reveal who drew the picture. Ask the girls to use the items in the room to re-create the drawing. Give the girls as much time as they need to design the room. When they are finished come back into the room and try to guess which girl's room the group decorated.
Designer's Challenge
Give aspiring interior designers one room in your home to design for the holidays. Ask each girl to create a drawing of what they would do to transform your room into a holiday masterpiece. Supply a budget and let each designer know what they can use from your current holiday decoration stash.
Each girl presents her idea and one designer is selected to execute her design. Invite the other designers to help decorate the room so everyone is included in the project. Leave the area when the girls are decorating the house so that it is a surprise to you and your family. Hold a small holiday party in the new room after the big reveal.
