Who Decides What Games EA Sports Develops?

No single person “tells EA Sports to game.” It’s a multi-layered decision process involving:

Internal Leadership

  • EA Sports General Manager / VP: Sets division strategy, approves greenlights, allocates budget.
  • Franchise Executive Producers (EPs): One per major series (FC/Madden/NBA Live/F1/UFC/NHL/PGA). Owns vision, roadmap, feature prioritization.
  • Development Directors / Producers: Manage schedules, resources, cross-studio coordination (EA Vancouver, Orlando, Tiburon, Bucharest, Shanghai).

Data-Driven Inputs

  • Player Telemetry: What modes are played? Retention? Churn? Spend? (Ultimate Team dominates revenue).
  • Market Research: Surveys, focus groups, competitive analysis (2K, Konami, Sony San Diego).
  • Licensing Deals: FIFA (now FC), NFL/NFLPA, NBA/NBPA, F1, UFC, PGA Tour — contracts dictate mandatory features, release windows, exclusivity.

External Forces

  • Community Feedback: Forums, Reddit, Twitter/X, Discord, Content Creators, Game Changers program (early access influencers).
  • Shareholders / EA Corporate: Quarterly targets, live service revenue goals, stock price.
  • Platform Holders: Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Steam — certification, feature requirements, revenue split.

The “Greenlight” Moment

A new title or major mode passes through: Concept → Prototype → Vertical Slice → Greenlight (EA Sports GM + Corporate) → Production → Live Ops.

It’s a collective, data-heavy, license-constrained, revenue-optimized process — not one person’s whim.
