How to Play Minecraft with 4 Players: 4 Methods
Four Ways to Play 4-Player Minecraft
1. Online Server (Most Flexible)
Realms (Official):
$7.99/mo (Java/Bedrock), 10 players, always online, cross-play (Bedrock).
Third-Party Hosting:
Aternos (free), Shockbyte, BisectHosting—more control, mods/plugins.
Self-Host:
Run
server.jar
(Java) or
bedrock_server
on PC/NAS; port forward (TCP 25565 / UDP 19132).
2. LAN (Local Network—No Internet Needed)
Java:
Open to LAN (Esc → Open to LAN) → others join via Multiplayer → Scanning.
Bedrock:
Enable "Local Server Multiplayer" in settings; host world → friends join via Friends tab.
3. Split-Screen (Consoles Only)
Xbox / PlayStation / Switch:
Start game → press Start on 2nd/3rd/4th controller → sign in guests or accounts. Max 4 players.
Bedrock on PC:
No native split-screen (mods exist).
4. Cross-Platform (Bedrock Edition)
Windows 10/11, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, iOS, Android—all play together via Realms, servers, or LAN (same network).
Java Edition: PC/Mac/Linux only.
Tips for Smooth 4P
Host on best hardware / wired Ethernet.
Allocate 4–6 GB RAM to server.
Use Paper/Spigot (Java) for plugin support + performance.
Set permissions (LuckPerms) to prevent griefing.
Voice chat: Discord, Xbox Party, PS Party, in-game (Bedrock).
Pick the method matching your platforms and play!
