Can You Connect Original PSP to TV for UMD Movies? No—Here's Why

You cannot connect the original PSP (PSP-1000) to a TV via AV cable to watch UMD films.

Technical Reasons

• No AV Output: Original PSP uses a proprietary "PSP Connector" for charging/data/dock—no video out.
• UMD Encryption: Films are encrypted; playback not compatible with standard AV signals.

Later Models (PSP Go, Slim, 3000)

• Have standard AV output (composite/component cables).
• But: Only output games that support video out. UMD movies still won't play on TV.

Alternative (Complex/Legal Gray Area)

• Rip UMD to computer → play via media player on TV. May violate copyright if you don't own the film legally.

Always use legal/ethical methods.
