Switch Game Modes in Minecraft PE (Bedrock): Create New World, Can't Change Existing

You cannot change game mode in an existing Minecraft PE (Bedrock Edition) world directly. The game doesn't support /gamemode commands or in-menu switching like Java Edition.

Correct Method: Create New World with Desired Mode

  1. Open Minecraft PE (Bedrock).
  2. Tap Create New World.
  3. Select Game Mode:
    • Survival — Resources, hunger, danger, achievements.
    • Creative — Unlimited resources, flight, no damage, building focus.
    • Adventure — Restricted block interaction (custom maps).
    • Spectator — Observe only, no interaction.
  4. Customize: Difficulty, world type (Flat, Infinite, Old), seed, cheats (enable for commands).
  5. Tap Create.

Existing World? No In-Game Switch

  • No menu option to change mode.
  • External tools (universal Minecraft editor, NBT editors) exist but are unsupported, risky, and can corrupt worlds.
  • Best practice: Create new world in desired mode. Copy builds manually if needed.

Java / Console Editions Differ

Java Edition: /gamemode creative works anytime (cheats enabled). Legacy Console (PS3/360/Wii U): Host options menu. Bedrock (PE/Win10/Console): New world only.

Plan your mode before starting. Creative for building, Survival for adventure.
