Where to Look for a Lost Game (Physical & Digital)

I can't physically search for you, but here's a systematic checklist based on game type:

1. Physical Games (Cartridges, Discs, Cards)

  • Last Known Spot: Shelves, drawers, media towers, storage boxes, under furniture.
  • Recent Activity Areas: Where you last played, cleaned, moved, or had guests.
  • Ask Household: Family, roommates, friends who visited.
  • Public Loss: Check lost & found at venues (libraries, community centers, transit).
  • Resale Markets: eBay, Mercari, Facebook Marketplace, local game stores, pawn shops.
  • Your Archives: Old boxes, storage units, childhood home, attic/basement.

2. Digital Games

  • Platform Libraries: Steam, Epic, GOG, Battle.net, Origin/EA App, Ubisoft Connect, Microsoft Store, Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store.
  • Download Folders: Check default download directories on PC.
  • Purchase History: Log into each platform account > Transaction/Purchase History.
  • Email Receipts: Search email for game title, platform name, "receipt," "order confirmation."
  • Backups: External drives, cloud sync (Steam Cloud, etc.), old computer images.

3. Game-Specific Resources

  • Developer/publisher website (support/downloads).
  • Game subreddits, Discord, forums (community may have links/archives).
  • Databases: MobyGames, GameFAQs, Giant Bomb for identifying obscure titles.

General Search Tips

  • Search with full title + platform + developer.
  • Keywords: "lost game," "missing game," "where to find [title]."
  • Be patient; contact developer/publisher support or gaming communities if stuck.
