What Is a Quick Match in StarCraft II?

Quick Match is StarCraft II's **casual, unranked matchmaking queue**. It prioritizes fast entry over competitive precision.

Key Characteristics

  • No Map Veto: Random map from the current Quick Match pool (smaller than ladder pool).
  • No Lobby: Instant queue → loading screen → game.
  • No MMR Impact: Wins/losses do not affect your ranked ladder MMR or league.
  • Separate MMR: Uses a hidden **Quick Match MMR** to pair similarly skilled casual players.
  • Race Selection: Pick Random or a specific race before queueing.
  • Shorter Game Time: Often faster games due to map pool (smaller rush-friendly maps).

When to Use It

  • Warming up without ladder anxiety.
  • Testing weird builds / off-meta strategies.
  • Playing off-race (your non-main race).
  • Short sessions—queue times are usually < 30 seconds.

Caveats

  • **Skill Variance:** High-level players often use QM for practice; you may face Grandmasters.
  • **No Leaver Penalty:** Players quit early more often.
  • **Achievements/Quests:** Some "Win X games" dailies count QM; ranked-only quests do not.

For competitive progression, play **Ranked (1v1 / Team)**. For low-pressure practice, **Quick Match** is ideal.
