Do You Need All Expansions to Play World of Warcraft?

No, you do not need to buy all expansions.

How It Works

• Base game (now includes all expansions up to the previous one): Covers original continents, leveling, and core features.
• Current expansion: Requires separate purchase for newest content, level cap increase, and endgame.
• Subscription required: Monthly fee needed to play beyond the free trial (level 20 cap).

Trade-offs of Skipping Expansions

• Level/content caps: Limited to older zones, dungeons, raids.
• Story gaps: Miss narrative arcs that build across expansions.
• Community focus: Most players engage with current expansion content.

Buy expansions based on your interest in specific storylines, races, or endgame activities.
