GameStop Trade-In Policy: Games for Cash or Credit

Yes. GameStop accepts trade-ins for Store Credit (Trade Credit) or Cash (typically 20-30% less than credit value).

Current Trade-In Process (2024)

  1. Check Value Online: gamestop.com/trade → Search Title → See Trade Credit vs Cash estimate.
  2. Condition Requirements:
    • Complete: Disc/Cart + Case + Cover Art + Manual (if applicable).
    • Working: No deep scratches (resurfacing fee $2-5), no cracks, no water damage, no rental stickers.
    • Switch/PS4/PS5/XB1/XBS: Case + Cart/Disc. DLC codes not required but increase value.
    • Retro (NES, SNES, N64, GB, GBA, GC, DS, 3DS, PSP, Vita, PS1, PS2, Xbox, DC, Saturn): Cart/Disc only often accepted; Case/Manual boost value significantly.
  3. In-Store: Associate scans barcode / looks up SKU → Tests disc (resurfacer if needed) → Offers quote.
  4. ID Required: Government photo ID (Driver's License, State ID, Passport) for ALL trades (Pawn laws). Must be 18+ (or 16+ with parent in some states).
  5. PowerUp Rewards Pro ($25/yr): +10% Trade Credit (stacks with promos). Essential if trading >$250/yr.

Promo Stacking (Maximize Value)

  • "Trade 3, Get $10 Extra" / "Trade 5, Get $20 Extra" — Common weekly.
  • "Trade Towards [New Game/Console]" — +30-50% bonus credit.
  • Pro 10% + Promo = Best return.

Cash vs Credit

  • Credit: Higher value, never expires, usable on anything (consoles, accessories, collectibles, gift cards sometimes restricted).
  • Cash: Lower value, immediate liquidity.

Tip: Clean discs (microfiber), match cases/art, bring ID + Pro card. Call ahead for retro/bulk.
