Favorite Sport in Final Fantasy X: Blitzball – The Only One With Leagues, Stats & Narrative Weight

Blitzball — the underwater, full-contact, sphere-based sport played in massive spherical stadiums across Spira.

Why It's the Clear Answer

• Narrative Centrality: Tidus is a star player for the Zanarkand Abes; Wakka captains the Besaid Aurochs. The Blitzball tournament in Luca is a major plot beat (Operation Mi'ihen setup).
• Full Minigame: Not a one-off — complete league system: Exhibition, Tournament, League (10 seasons), prizes (Wakka's Overdrives, Jecht Shot, Venus Sigil).
• Depth: 22 recruitable players, 6 stats (HP, EN, PA, SH, BL, CA), techniques (learned via Techcopy), formations, contracts, salaries.
• Cultural Impact: Spira's religion (Yevon) tolerates it as "prayer"; Al Bhed use it for recruitment; fans cosplay teams.

Other "Sports" in FFX (Minor)

• Chocobo Racing (Calm Lands) — time trials, breeding, Cloudy Mirror sidequest.
• Butterfly Catching (Macalania Woods) — minigame for Kimahri's Celestial Weapon.
• Lightning Dodging (Thunder Plains) — 200 consecutive for Lulu's weapon. (Not a sport.)

Blitzball is the only one with leagues, stats, recruitment, and narrative weight. It's the sport of Spira.
