The original Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007) **official multiplayer servers are shut down** on all platforms (Xbox 360, PS3, PC). You cannot play online via matchmaking.

How to Play Multiplayer in 2024

1. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered (2016) — Included with Infinite Warfare Legacy/Deluxe, later standalone. **Active servers**, 1080p/60fps (120fps on Series X/PS5 via BC), cross-play (PC/PS4/Xbox One). Best experience.
2. PC: Community Mods / Dedicated Servers — CoD4x (client + server files) revives master server, adds anti-cheat, mod support, custom maps, 64-player. Download from cod4x.me. Requires legit Steam/disc install.
3. Xbox 360 / PS3: System Link (LAN) — Connect two consoles via Ethernet / switch. No internet needed. Local only.
4. Xbox 360: XLink Kai / Insignia (Custom Servers) — Tunnels System Link over internet. Complex setup. Small community.

What You Need for Remastered

• Copy of Modern Warfare Remastered (disc or digital).
• Xbox Live Gold / Game Pass Core (console) or free (PC).
• Internet connection.

Warning: Original CoD4 on PC (Steam) without CoD4x = hacker-infested, no master server. Don't bother. Play Remastered or CoD4x.
