The Sims 3 (Mac): Cheat Console Not Working? Fixes

Mac Cheat Console: ⌘ Command + Shift + C (not Ctrl).

Essential First Cheat

testingcheatsenabled true (Case sensitive! Must be exact). Enter → Enter. Must be on before other cheats.

Common Fixes

  • Wrong Keys: Ensure ⌘ (Command), not Ctrl. External PC keyboard: Win+Shift+C.
  • Stuck Shift: Clean keyboard. Stuck modifier blocks input.
  • Game Version / Patch: Update via EA App / Origin. Patch 1.67/1.69 fixed many cheat bugs.
  • Mods/CC Conflict: Move ~/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Mods to Desktop. Test vanilla.
  • Windowed Mode: Some Macs need Windowed (⌘+Return) for console to capture input.
  • Keyboard Layout: Non-US layouts (AZERTY, etc.) may map keys differently. Try US layout temporarily.

Useful Cheats (After testingcheatsenabled true)

  • motherlode – +50,000§
  • kaching / rosebud – +1,000§
  • buydebug on – Hidden objects (spawners, debug items).
  • restrictbuildbuyinbuildings off – Edit dorms/hotels.
  • Shift-click (⌘+Click) Sim/Mailbox/Ground → Object/Sim manipulation.

If Still Broken

  1. Repair Game in EA App.
  2. Delete CASPartCache.package, compositorCache.package, scriptCache.package, simCompositorCache.package, socialCache.package in ~/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/.
  3. New Save Game (test cheats fresh).
  4. Reinstall.
