Finding a Cheap Nintendo DS: Best Sources, Model Guide & Inspection Checklist

No real-time pricing — but here's where to look:

Best Sources (Used/Refurbished)

  • eBay: Filter "Sold" for true prices. Lots (console + games) often better value.
  • Facebook Marketplace / Craigslist / OfferUp: Local, no shipping, inspect before buying.
  • Local game stores: Often test & warranty (30–90 days).
  • Pawn shops / thrift stores: Hit or miss; check for corrosion, hinge cracks.
  • Mercari / Swappa: Decent buyer protection.

Model Guide

  • DS Lite: Best screen quality, GBA slot, common, $30–$60.
  • DSi / DSi XL: Larger screens, cameras, SD slot, no GBA slot, DSiWare (shop dead). $40–$80.
  • 3DS / 2DS: Plays DS + 3DS games, eShop closed but CFW allows backups. $60–$120.

Inspection Checklist

  • Hinges tight (not cracked/loose).
  • Screens: no dead pixels, scratches, yellowing.
  • Buttons: clicky, not mushy.
  • Charge port: not loose.
  • Battery holds charge (test 30+ min).
  • GBA slot reads cart (if Lite).

Patience + local pickup = best deals.
