Resetting Nintendogs: Methods & Warnings

There is **no "Reset Game" button** in the menu. You have three paths:

1. New Save Slot (Soft Reset — Keeps Old Data)

• Title Screen → **New Game** → Choose Slot 2 or 3 (3 slots total).
• Old dogs remain in Slot 1. Switch via "Go for a Walk" → "Change Dog" → Select Slot.
• Best for: Trying a new breed without losing progress.

2. Delete Specific Save File (Requires L Button)

• Title Screen → Hold **L + R + A + B + X + Y + Start + Select** simultaneously.
• Prompt: "Delete all save data?" → Yes.
• Broken L Button? See Article 103710 — Clean/Repair L or use Slot 2/3.

3. Nuclear: Format System Memory (DSi/3DS)

• System Settings → Format System Memory → **Erases EVERYTHING** (All games, DSiWare, Photos, Sound, Settings, Friend Codes).
• Console returns to factory state. **Irreversible.**

4. "Doggy Day" (Personality Reset Only — Nintendogs + Cats)

• Donate dog → "Doggy Day" → Returns with reset personality/training. Keeps breed/name.
• Not in original DS Nintendogs.

Recommendation: Use **Slot 2** for a fresh start. Only Format System Memory if selling the console.
