What Are Nintendo Points (My Nintendo Platinum/Gold Points)?

You cannot buy Nintendo Points. They are loyalty rewards earned through engagement with Nintendo's ecosystem, not a purchasable currency.

How to Earn Points (My Nintendo Program)

  • Platinum Points: Earned for free actions—logging into the eShop, completing missions in the My Nintendo website/app, playing mobile titles (Fire Emblem Heroes, Mario Kart Tour, etc.), linking accounts, or taking surveys.
  • Gold Points: Earned by spending real money on the Nintendo eShop (digital games, DLC, subscriptions). Rate: 5% of purchase price (e.g., a $59.99 game yields ~300 Gold Points = $3.00 off a future purchase). Physical game vouchers (included in some boxed Switch games) also grant Gold Points when redeemed.

How to Redeem

  • Platinum Points → Exclusive digital rewards (wallpapers, themes, Animal Crossing items, manufacturing discounts on Nintendo merchandise via My Nintendo Store).
  • Gold Points → Applied automatically at checkout on the eShop to discount eligible purchases (can cover up to 100% of price). Gold Points expire 12 months after earning; Platinum Points expire 6 months after earning.

Legacy Note: The old "Nintendo Points" (Wii Points / Nintendo DSi Points) were a prepaid currency (1000 pts = $10) used on the Wii Shop Channel and DSi Shop. Those services closed in 2019; remaining balances were converted or refunded.
