How to Get Mystery Gifts in Pokémon Black & White (DS) — 2024 Guide

Mystery Gift in Pokémon Black / White (Generation V) allows receiving special Pokémon, items, and C-Gear skins via local wireless or Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection (discontinued for DS in 2014).

Historical Methods (Nintendo WFC Shut Down May 2014)

1. Receive via Nintendo WFC (Internet) — No Longer Functional

• Main Menu → Mystery Gift → Receive via Nintendo WFC.
• Connected to Nintendo servers for event distributions (e.g., Liberty Pass for Victini, Dream World abilities).
• Servers offline since 2014. This method does not work on original hardware.

2. Receive via Wireless Communication (Local) — Still Works

• Two DS systems (or 3DS in DS mode) in range.
• Both: Main Menu → Mystery Gift → Receive via Wireless Communication.
• One hosts, one receives. Transfers: Wonder Cards, C-Gear skins.
• Used for: Sharing event Wonder Cards between friends.

3. Receive via Infrared (Black/White 2 Only) — Still Works

• Black 2 / White 2: Mystery Gift → Receive via Infrared.
• Requires two DS/3DS systems face-to-face (IR ports aligned).
• Transfers: Medals, Keys, Funfest Missions.

Modern Workarounds (2024+)

Option A: Custom Firmware / Homebrew (3DS Family)

• Install Checkpoint or PKHeX via CFW (Luma3DS + boot9strap).
• Inject .wc6 (Wonder Card) files for any Gen 5 event directly into save.
• Resources: ProjectPokémon Wonder Card Archive — every official event .wc6 file.

Option B: Emulation (melonDS / DeSmuME / Ryujinx)

• Load save → use built-in Mystery Gift injector / PKHeX → inject Wonder Cards.
• Or use fan-run DNS (e.g., 164.132.44.106 — check current) to spoof Nintendo WFC for Gen 4/5 events. Community projects like Wiimmfi (Wii/DS) and AltWFC restore limited Mystery Gift functionality.

Option C: Pokémon HOME (Transfer Only)

• If you have event Pokémon in Gen 5 save → transfer via Poké Transfer Lab (requires 2 DS systems) → Pokémon Bank (3DS) → Pokémon HOME (Switch/Mobile). Bank service ended March 2023. Transfer window closed.

Notable Gen 5 Mystery Gift Events (For Reference)

• Liberty Pass → Victini (Liberty Garden)
• Dream World Pokémon: Hidden Ability starters, Eeveelutions, etc.
• Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus — various distributions.
• C-Gear Skins: Seasonal, promotional (Pikachu, Zorua, etc.)

Bottom line: On original hardware, only local wireless/IR works. For event content, use homebrew/emulation with Wonder Card injection.
