Connecting Nintendo DS to Computer: Not Directly Possible

No standard USB cable connects a Nintendo DS to a PC. The DS lacks USB device mode.

What Works

  • DS Browser (Opera): Wi‑Fi → browse web on DS (slow, no modern TLS).
  • Download Play: Local multiplayer from one cart to another DS.
  • Flashcarts (R4, Ace3ds, R4i Gold 3DS+): MicroSD → homebrew, emulators, media players—legal gray area.
  • Wi‑Fi Connection (Defunct): Nintendo WFC shut down 2014—homebrew replacement Wiimmfi restores Mario Kart DS, Pokémon, etc.
  • PC Emulation: DeSmuME (Windows/Mac/Linux), melonDS (accurate, netplay), DraStic (Android)—play DS games on PC legally with dumped ROMs.

File Transfer (Homebrew Required)

  1. Install Unlaunch (DSi/3DS) or FlashMe (DS/Lite)—custom firmware.
  2. Run GodMode9 / TWiLight Menu++—FTP/SMB access to SD/NAND.
  3. Transfer saves, screenshots, homebrew via network.

Legal Warning

Downloading ROMs you don't own = piracy. Dumping your own carts = legal (US DMCA 1201 exemption for preservation). Flashcarts legal to own; usage defines legality.

For modern play: melonDS on PC. For hardware tinkering: TWiLight Menu++ on flashcart.
