Using the Nintendo 3DS Friend List for Online Play

The Friend List isn't a website—it's a system-level feature on the 3DS family for connecting with friends in supported games and apps.

Adding Friends

• StreetPass: Exchange friend codes automatically by passing other 3DS owners in person (requires StreetPass enabled).
• Nintendo Network ID (NNID): Search for friends by NNID or exchange 12-digit Friend Codes manually via the Friend List app.
• Game-Specific Lists: Some games (Monster Hunter, Pokémon) maintain separate friend rosters.

Using Friends for Online Play

• In any online-enabled game, open the friend list or in-game menu to see which friends are online and playing the same game.
• Join their session or invite them to yours.
• Some games allow sending messages or voice chat outside of matches.

Requirements

• Stable internet connection (Wi-Fi).
• Nintendo Network ID (NNID) linked for most online features.
• The specific game must support online multiplayer (check the box or eShop description).
