Do You Need a WoW Subscription for Private Servers?

No. You do not need a paid World of Warcraft subscription to play on private servers.

Why

• Private servers operate independently, using modified game code.
• They have their own account creation and login systems, not Blizzard's authentication.
• Most are free to play; some offer optional premium features for perks.

Important Warning

Playing on private servers violates Blizzard's Terms of Service. While not illegal, you risk a permanent ban on your official Blizzard account if detected.
