Pokémon X and Y Online Play: Servers Shut Down in 2020

Online features for Pokémon X and Y (3DS) were permanently disabled on January 15, 2020, when Nintendo shut down the Nintendo Network service for 3DS and Wii U software.

What No Longer Works

• Online battles (Random Matchup, Rating Battles)
• Global Trade Station (GTS) & Wonder Trade
• O-Powers, Game Sync, Pokémon Global Link
• Friend List / PSS (Player Search System) online functions

What Still Works (Offline)

• Full single-player campaign
• Local wireless trading/battling with nearby 3DS systems
• StreetPass features
• Pokémon Bank / Poké Transporter (paid subscription; still operational as of 2024 for moving Pokémon to Pokémon Home)

Alternative for Online Play

Switch titles Pokémon Sword/Shield, Scarlet/Violet, and Legends: Arceus have active online services.
