Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Local Multiplayer (Same House)

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare does not support direct LAN multiplayer on consoles—it requires internet connectivity for all multiplayer modes. However, several workarounds enable same-house play.

Workaround 1: LAN Party (PC Version Only)

  • Connect all PCs to same router/switch
  • One PC hosts a dedicated server (console command: `sv_lan 1`)
  • Others join via "Find Game" → LAN tab
  • For internet-simulated LAN: Hamachi, Radmin VPN, or ZeroTier create virtual LANs over internet

Workaround 2: Split-Screen (Console Versions)

  • PS3 and Xbox 360 versions support 2-player split-screen on a single console
  • Both players need controllers. Guest account for player 2
  • Limited to private matches and local modes—no ranked online

Workaround 3: Multiple Consoles + Internet

  • Each console needs its own internet connection (can share household connection)
  • Each player needs own Xbox Live Gold / PlayStation Plus subscription
  • Party up and join same public lobby or create private match
  • Same TV possible if multiple HDMI inputs (picture-in-picture) or separate displays

Requirements Checklist

  • Identical game version/patch for all players
  • Stable broadband (3+ Mbps per console recommended)
  • Router UPnP enabled or port forwarding (UDP 3074, 3075, 3076)
  • NAT Type Open/Moderate (Strict blocks hosting/joining)

Note: Xbox 360/PS3 online services for CoD4 remain active via Demonware backend, but player counts are low. Private matches with bots fill lobbies.
