Which World Is Bigger: A Link to the Past or Oracle of Ages?

Depends on how you measure “size”:

Overworld Area

  • A Link to the Past (SNES): **Larger single contiguous map** — Light World + Dark World = ~2x surface area. Dense with caves, secrets, optional zones.
  • Oracle of Ages (GBC): Smaller per‑era maps, but **two full overworlds (Past/Present)** that change dynamically. Combined exploration feels expansive.

Dungeon Count & Complexity

  • ALttP: 12 main dungeons + 4 optional — larger, multi‑floor, key‑hunt designs.
  • Ages: 8 main dungeons — tighter, puzzle‑focused, time‑mechanic integrated.

Verticality & Density

  • Ages uses time travel to layer content vertically (same screen, different era) — feels “deeper.”
  • ALttP spreads horizontally — feels “wider.”

Verdict

  • **Raw map size:** A Link to the Past.
  • **Content density & mechanic‑driven expansion:** Oracle of Ages feels richer per screen.

Both are masterpieces—ALttP for scope, Ages for ingenuity.
