Are Game Stores Open on Christmas Day? Almost Certainly Not

Almost certainly not. Major retailers (Walmart, Target, GameStop, Best Buy) close on Christmas Day for employee holiday observance.

Why They Close

• Federal/statutory holiday in US, Canada, UK, AU, EU.
• Labor laws/customs mandate closures or premium pay.
• Near-zero foot traffic—demand shifts to pre-holiday.

What You Can Do Instead

• Pre-order – Secure gifts weeks ahead.
• Digital codes – Buy eShop/PSN/Xbox/Steam codes online; delivered instantly via email.
• Gift cards – Physical or digital; recipient chooses.
• Online retailers – Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop websites accept orders 24/7, but shipping pauses on Christmas (no pickup/delivery).

Exceptions (Rare)

• Some 24/7 convenience stores may carry $20 eShop/PSN/Xbox cards.
• Local indie shops might open limited hours—call ahead.

Plan ahead. Christmas Day is for playing, not shopping.
