Finding Downloaded Games on Nintendo 3DS XL

Downloaded games on 3DS XL aren't "files" you browse. They're **licenses tied to your Nintendo Network ID (NNID)**. Here's how to access them:

Redownload from eShop (Primary Method)

  1. Connect to internet.
  2. Open **Nintendo eShop** (orange bag icon).
  3. Tap **Menu (☰)** → **Settings / Other** → **Redownload** (or "Your Downloads").
  4. List shows all titles linked to the NNID signed in. Tap **Redownload** → **Download**.

Check Download History

  1. System Settings (wrench) → **Data Management** → **Nintendo 3DS** → **Download History**.
  2. Shows recent downloads with date/size. Can redownload from here too.

Critical Limitations

  • NNID Lock: Games only redownload on a 3DS **linked to the same NNID**. One NNID = one active 3DS at a time (System Transfer moves it).
  • eShop Closure (March 2023): **No new purchases.** Redownload of *already owned* games still works (as of 2024).
  • No SD Card Browsing: Encrypted title keys. Can't copy to PC, can't run from SD on another 3DS without transfer.
  • Lost/Stolen 3DS: Call Nintendo Support (serial + NNID) → they can unlink NNID → you can link to new 3DS → redownload. Police report helps.

Save Data

  • Saved on **SD Card** (/Nintendo 3DS///title/).
  • Backup: System Settings → Data Management → Save Data Backup → SD Card.
  • Cloud: **Not supported on 3DS** (Switch only).

Keep your NNID credentials safe. It's the key to your library.
