PS3 3D Dual Play (Two Players, Both in 3D)? No Games Support It

Zero PS3 titles support simultaneous stereoscopic 3D for two local players.

Why

  • HDMI 1.4a Bandwidth: 1080p60 3D (frame-packing) = 148 MHz per eye. Two views = 296 MHz — exceeds PS3's HDMI transmitter spec (225 MHz max).
  • Render Cost: Drawing two 3D scenes (4 viewports) exceeds RSX VRAM/fill-rate.
  • Display Market: 3D TVs required **active shutter glasses synced per viewer** — no consumer TV supported dual independent sync.

What PS3 *Does* Support

  • Single-player 3D: ~40 titles (Uncharted 3, Killzone 3, GT5, Batman: AC).
  • Split-Screen 2D: Standard 720p/30 fps per player.
  • SimulView (Sony 3D TV only): **Two players, each sees full-screen 2D** (uses 3D bandwidth to interleave left/right eye for Player 1 / Player 2). Requires Sony 24" 3D Display + special glasses. Games: MotorStorm: Apocalypse, Resistance 3, Killzone 3.

SimulView is the closest—**dual 2D**, not dual 3D. For true dual 3D, you need two headsets (PSVR2 on PS5) or two PCs.
