Connect PS3 to Internet Without Ethernet: Use Wi-Fi or USB Dongle

There's no "3 dongle." You likely mean a **USB Wi-Fi adapter** (dongle) or are confusing terms.

PS3 Network Options

  • All PS3 Models Have Built-In Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) – No dongle needed.
    • Settings → Network Settings → Internet Connection → Wireless → Scan → Select SSID → Enter Password.
  • Ethernet (Wired): Best stability. Connect router LAN → PS3 LAN port.
  • USB Wi-Fi Dongle: Only needed if internal Wi-Fi fails. Use **PS3-compatible** dongle (rare; most PC dongles lack driver). Not recommended.

Common Issues & Fixes

  • WEP/WPA2-AES only: PS3 doesn't support WPA3, TKIP, or Enterprise. Router: set WPA2-PSK (AES).
  • Signal Weak: Move PS3 closer; 2.4 GHz only (no 5 GHz).
  • MAC Filtering: Add PS3 MAC (Settings → System Info) to router allowlist.

Use built-in Wi-Fi or Ethernet. No special dongle required.
