Playing PS2 Games on PlayStation 3: Compatibility Options

You cannot directly play PS2 discs on a PS3.

Why

• Different Architectures: PS2 and PS3 use completely different hardware.
• No Native Backward Compatibility: Unlike PS4/PS5, PS3 lacks built-in PS2 support.

Workarounds

• PS2 Classics: Select PS2 games sold digitally on PlayStation Store, optimized for PS3.
• PS2 Emulator on Hacked PS3: Custom firmware can run emulators, but unsupported, risky, and potentially illegal.

Best Experience: Use an actual PS2 console with discs for original, hassle-free gameplay.
