PS3 Wi-Fi Standard: 802.11b/g Only — No 802.11n Support

The PlayStation 3 supports 802.11b/g (2.4 GHz only). It does not support 802.11n, 5 GHz, or newer standards.

Implications

• Max Theoretical: 54 Mbps (802.11g). Real-world: 15–25 Mbps.
• Congestion: 2.4 GHz crowded (microwaves, Bluetooth, neighbors).
• Workaround: Wired ethernet (Gigabit on PS3 Slim/Super Slim) for 100+ Mbps stability.
• Bridge/Extender: 5 GHz bridge (e.g., travel router in client mode) → ethernet to PS3.

PS4/PS5 support 802.11ac (Wi-Fi 5) / Wi-Fi 6 respectively.
