PS3 Cooling: Stands & Fans, Not Mats

No “cooling mats” exist for PS3. Mats work for laptops (bottom intake); PS3 exhausts heat from rear/sides—bottom is mostly passive.

Effective Cooling Solutions

• Vertical stand with fan – Aligns with rear exhaust; pulls hot air out (e.g., Nyko, OEM).
• Horizontal stand + side fans – Lifts console, adds lateral airflow.
• External USB fan – Clips to rear vent; 5V from console.
• Thermal paste refresh – Arctic MX‑4 / NT‑H1 on RSX/CELL (requires disassembly). Most effective.
• Delid + liquid metal – Extreme; only for experts.

Placement Basics

• Open air, 6"+ clearance all sides.
• Not on carpet / inside cabinet.
• Horizontal preferred (disc drive longevity).

Warning

Cheap multi‑fan stands often vibrate, draw >500mA (USB limit), or block vents. Stick to single 120mm rear‑exhaust fan or thermal paste redo.
