How to Update & Register a PS3 With a USB Media Storage Device

The PlayStation 3 gets updates from Sony occasionally to improve the system's security and offer more features. You can install these software updates by downloading them directly to the PS3 or by using a USB storage device. After you've updated your system, you can register for a PlayStation Network account, which will also register your PS3, and can take advantage of the many features that the PSN offers, including downloading games directly to your PS3.
