4-Player Offline Guitar Hero on PS3: Not Possible—Max Is 3

PS3 Guitar Hero games support maximum 3 players offline (2 guitars + 1 drums). The console has 4 USB ports, but the game engine doesn't support 4 simultaneous instruments. No drum + 3 guitar mode exists in any PS3 Guitar Hero title.

Your Options

• 3-Player Band: 2 guitars + drums (standard configuration)
• Online Multiplayer: If servers still active for your title
• Xbox 360 Versions: Guitar Hero World Tour and Warriors of Rock on Xbox 360 support 4 players (with compatible instruments)
• Rock Band Series: Also max 3 on PS3 (guitar, bass, drums) — no keys support offline

Why the Limit?

• Engine limitation: Audio mixing, note tracking, and UI designed for 3 tracks
• USB bandwidth allocation for instrument polling
• Development focus on 3-player band experience

If 4-player local is essential, track down an Xbox 360 with World Tour or Warriors of Rock. Otherwise, embrace the trio format—it's what the games were balanced for.
