PS3 Overheating Issue: Resolved in 2009 Slim Redesign, Not a Current Problem

The PS3 overheating problem is not a current issue. It affected early "Fat" models (2006–2007) due to the Cell processor's heat and inadequate cooling design.

How Sony Fixed It

  • 2009 Slim redesign: Smaller 45nm Cell/RSX chips, improved heatsink/fan layout, lower power draw—eliminated overheating.
  • Extended warranties: Sony covered repairs for affected Fat models for years.

Any PS3 manufactured from 2009 onward (Slim, Super Slim) does not suffer from this design flaw. If you have a Fat model, ensure vents are clean and it's well-ventilated.
