Installing a Used Sims Disc Game on a PC Without an Optical Drive

You cannot install directly from a physical disc without a DVD drive. Here are the legal workarounds:

1. Redeem the Serial Code on EA App / Origin (Best)

  • Most Sims 2, Sims 3, and Sims 4 discs include a **product code** (on the manual, case insert, or disc sleeve).
  • Download EA App (Windows) or Origin (legacy/macOS).
  • Log in → "Redeem Product Code" → enter the code.
  • The game attaches to your account; download/install digitally—no disc needed.

Caveat: Used codes may be already registered. If the seller didn't unregister it, you'll need a refund from them.

2. External USB DVD Drive ($15–$25)

  • Plug in → Windows/macOS recognizes it → run setup.exe / Install.app from disc.
  • Still requires the product code for activation.

3. Create an ISO on Another PC, Then Mount

  • On a PC with a drive: Use ImgBurn (free) → "Create image file from disc" → save .iso.
  • Transfer ISO via USB/Network to target PC.
  • Windows 10/11: Double-click ISO → mounts as virtual drive → run installer.
  • macOS: Double-click ISO → mounts in Finder.

Warning: Downloading ISOs from the internet for games you don't own is piracy and risks malware.

4. Family Sharing / Gift (Sims 4 on EA App)

  • If a friend owns Sims 4 on EA App, they can use "Share Library" (Steam-style) or gift the game.

Critical Reminders

  • Sims 2: SecuROM DRM blocks disc installs on Windows 10/11. Must redeem code on EA App (gives DRM-free "Super Collection" / "Ultimate Collection" entitlement).
  • Sims 3: Disc version uses SecuROM; EA App redemption gives the 64-bit "Legacy Edition" (better on modern OS).
  • Sims 4: Base game is free-to-play on EA App/Steam; packs require purchase.
