Fix: The Sims 2 Double Deluxe Won't Launch / Install

Common issue on modern Windows (10/11) due to SecuROM DRM (blocked by KB3086255) and 16-bit installer components.

Step-by-Step Fix

1. Clean Disc: Microfiber, center→edge. Try different drive.
2. Run Setup as Admin: Right-click Setup.exe / AutoRun.exe → Properties → Compatibility → Run as Administrator + Disable Fullscreen Optimizations.
3. Compatibility Mode: Set to Windows XP SP3 or Windows 7.
4. Bypass SecuROM (Required on Win 10/11):
   • Download No-CD Patch / Fixed EXE from GameCopyWorld or MegaGames for The Sims 2 Double Deluxe v1.0 (or your patch version).
   • Replace TSData\Res\CSConfig\Graphics Rules.sgr and TSBin\Sims2EP9.exe (main exe) with patched versions.
   • Legal note: Only for owned disc. SecuROM server dead; this restores functionality you paid for.
5. Install Order (Double Deluxe = Base + Nightlife + Celebration! Stuff + Bonus):
   1. Install Base (Disc 1).

6. Graphics Rules Maker (GRM): Run SimmyTheSim's GRM after install → auto-detect GPU, fix pink flashing, enable multi-core, fix VRAM detection.
7. 4GB Patch: Apply 4GB Patch (ntcore) to TSBin\Sims2EP9.exe — allows >2 GB RAM usage (prevents crash on large lots).
8. Windowed Mode: Add -w to shortcut target. Alt+Enter toggles fullscreen.

If Installer Won't Start

• Copy all discs to folder on SSD (disc1, disc2... subfolders). Run Setup.exe from disc1 folder.
• Disable antivirus temporarily.
• Install Visual C++ 2005/2008/2010/2012/2013/2015-2022 Redistributables (x86 & x64).
