How to Unregister an Xbox Console

Released in 2005, the Xbox 360 is a next-generation gaming console. Most Xbox 360 players sign up for an Xbox Live membership, because this allows them to play games online and download media. To authenticate the membership, Microsoft installs a license on the console. If you purchase a new Xbox 360, you must perform a license transfer to authenticate the new console and to unregister the old one.

     Navigate to the license transfer page (see Resources). Sign in when prompted.

     Click "Start the license transfer process now." Click "Next."

     Turn on your new Xbox 360 and sign into your account. Click "Next" on the website.

     Click "Confirm" and wait for the transfer to complete.
