Deus Ex Genre: Immersive Sim (Action RPG / FPS / Stealth Hybrid)

Deus Ex (2000) is the definitive Immersive Sim — a hybrid genre defined by:

  • Systems-Driven Gameplay: Interlocking mechanics (physics, AI, hacking, conversation, combat) allow emergent solutions.
  • Player Agency: Multiple paths (Combat / Stealth / Hacking / Social) to every objective. No "wrong" build.
  • Persistent World: Levels are large, non-linear hubs. Choices persist (NPCs live/die, lore changes).
  • RPG Progression: Skill points (Accuracy, Hacking, Lockpicking, etc.) + Augmentations (Cloak, Regen, Vision, Strength).

Genre Breakdown
