Vertical Slab Sign Installation

Consumers encounter signs on a daily basis. Signs are one of the most common forms of advertising ̵2; from a bus bench to a tall billboard. However, a surprising amount of engineering expertise is required to construct these large signs. The sign must withstand wind and other weather elements on a constant basis. One type of sign installation, called vertical slab, is a relatively simple process. In fact, it is one of the most cost-effective sign installations compared to other methods, states Sign Web.

Instructions

    • 1

Dig a hole in the selected location, using a backhoe. The hole should resemble the shape of the backhoe's digging motion. Determine the depth by the size and weight of the sign.

    • 2

Pour concrete into the hole to create a vertical slab, or footer. Fill the hole completely.

    • 3

Place anchor bolts into the wet concrete. The anchor bolts will be attached to the sign's posts. Ensure there are two anchor bolts for each post. Position the anchor bolts so the threads protrude from the concrete. Allow the concrete to harden completely.

    • 4

Screw one leveling nut onto each protruding anchor bolt. Place each post onto the corresponding anchor bolt. Tighten the posts onto the bolts until they are flush with the leveling nuts.

    • 5

Attach the sign to the top of the posts. Tighten the screws or bolts that secure the sign to the posts.

    • 6

Place a level on the sign's top surface. Adjust the leveling nuts with a wrench until the sign is level.
