How to Steal Pokemon From a Trainer

Stealing another trainer's Pokemon can only be done in "Pokemon Colosseum" and "Pokemon XD" for the Nintendo Gamecube, and only if the Pokemon is a "shadow" Pokemon. Stealing "shadow" Pokemon is the same as catching wild Pokemon, only you use a Snag Ball instead of a regular Pokeball. As with wild Pokemon, "shadow" Pokemon are easier to steal when you have reduced their health bar to the red area.

      Enter into battle with a trainer. If the trainer does not send out a "shadow" Pokemon, you will not be able to steal it. A "shadow" Pokemon can be distinguished by its purple aura.

      Weaken the "shadow" Pokemon by attacking it.

      Select "Items" from the battle menu and then select the "Snag Ball." This will toss a Snag Ball at the "shadow" Pokemon. After three shakes of the Snag Ball, you will have stolen the trainer's Pokemon.
