The Intel GMA 3100 (G33/G31 Express chipset) is extremely weak by modern standards. No shader model 3.0, no hardware T&L, 32–256 MB shared RAM. It runs **only very old or very simple games**.
| Game | Year | Settings | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Half-Life 1 / Counter-Strike 1.6 | 1998/2003 | Low, 1024x768 | GoldSrc engine. CPU-bound. Runs okay. |
| Unreal Tournament 1999 / 2003/2004 | 1999/2002 | Low, 800x600 | UT2004 needs SM2.0 — GMA 3100 has SM2.0a (partial). May crash. |
| Max Payne 1 / 2 | 2001/2003 | Low | Software vertex fallback. Playable. |
| GTA III / Vice City / San Andreas | 2001–2004 | Low, 640x480, frame limiter ON | San Andreas needs 256 MB RAM + pagefile. Crashes common. |
| Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005) / Carbon | 2005/2006 | Low, 800x600 | Shader errors on some cars. MW runs better. |
| Call of Duty 1 / 2 / 4 (MW1) | 2003–2007 | Low, 800x600 | CoD4 needs SM3.0 — **will not run**. CoD2 OK. |
| Source Engine (HL2, Portal, TF2) | 2004–2007 | **No.** Requires SM2.0 + vertex shaders. GMA 3100 fails. | |
| Minecraft (Java, pre-1.17) | 2011 | **No.** OpenGL 2.1+ required. GMA 3100 = OpenGL 1.5 (Windows) / 2.1 (Linux, buggy). | |
| Terraria / Stardew Valley | 2011/2016 | **Maybe.** XNA 4.0 → needs SM2.0. Terraria 1.3+ may launch but <10 fps. | |
| Indie 2D (Celeste, Hollow Knight, Undertale) | 2015– | **No.** Modern frameworks (Monogame, Unity) need SM3.0+. |
Verdict: GMA 3100 = office/web/2003 games only. For *any* 3D gaming post-2006, **add a discrete GPU**. It's the single best upgrade.
