Playing Rock Band 1 (Wii) on PC via Disc? Impossible—Use Clone Hero Instead

Impossible. Wii discs use a proprietary format (RVL-006) with burst cutting area (BCA) that standard PC drives cannot read.

Why It Fails

  • PC DVD drives lack firmware to read Wii's custom sector layout.
  • Even if read, the executable is PowerPC (Wii CPU) — won't run on x86.
  • Encryption (title key) requires Wii's OTP/keys.

Legal Ways to Play Rock Band on PC

  • Rock Band 3 (PC) — never officially released on PC.
  • Rock Band 4 — PS4/Xbox One only.
  • Clone Hero (PC, free) — community GH/RB engine. Import Rock Band charts (CON files) via Chorus. Supports RB instruments (with adapter) or keyboard.
  • Phase Shift — similar, open-source.

Instruments on PC

  • Wii guitars: Need Bluetooth stack + GlovePIE / WiimoteHook — flaky.
  • Better: Xbox 360 wired guitar (native USB), or PS3/PS4 guitar (USB/Bluetooth).

Bottom line: Dump your Wii disc via homebrew (CleanRip) → convert to Clone Hero. Don't buy a PC drive expecting it to read Wii discs.
