Playing World of Warcraft with a Controller on PC

Not officially supported, but entirely possible with third‑party tools.

Why It’s Challenging

  • 60+ keybinds for abilities, macros, targeting, UI, and camera.
  • Precision mouse movement needed for click‑to‑move, ground targeting, and raid frames.
  • Popular addons (WeakAuras, DBM, ElvUI) assume keyboard/mouse input.

Working Solutions (2024)

ToolApproachProsCons
ConsolePort (AddOn)Native WoW addon with full controller UI, radial menus, cursor emulation.Best integration, updated per patch, free.Steep learning curve; limited support for niche mods.
WoWMapper (App)Maps controller → keyboard/mouse + virtual cursor; works with any addon.Flexible, supports gyro and touchpad.External app; occasional input lag.
Steam InputLaunch WoW via Steam Big Picture → controller layout. No extra install; gyro, layers, activators. No native UI scaling; cursor feels clunky.
Xpadder / reWASD / AntiMicroXGeneric key‑mappers.Simple setup. No radial menus; hard to manage 40+ binds.

Recommendation

  1. Install ConsolePort (CurseForge, WoWUp, or GitHub).
  2. Use a controller with paddles/back buttons (Xbox Elite, DualSense, 8BitDo Pro 2).
  3. Start with casual content: questing, dungeons, LFR. Mythic+ and high‑end raiding are extremely difficult.

Expect 20–40 hours to reach parity with keyboard/mouse. Many players switch back for endgame.
