How to Play Singleplayer in Minecraft (No Server Needed)

You don't need a server for singleplayer. It's built into the main menu.

  1. Launch Minecraft (Java or Bedrock).
  2. Click **Singleplayer** (Java) / **Play → Create New → Create New World** (Bedrock).
  3. Choose game mode (Survival/Creative/Hardcore), difficulty, seed, cheats.
  4. Click **Create New World** → Play.

What a "Server" Is: A separate program (server.jar, Realms, Bedrock Dedicated Server) that **multiple** players connect to. Singleplayer runs an integrated server locally, but you never configure it.

If You Want a Private World for Friends Later

  • Java: Open to LAN (Esc → Open to LAN) – friends on same Wi-Fi join.
  • Bedrock: Enable "Multiplayer Game" + "Visible to LAN Players" in world settings.
  • Realms / Hosted Server: Persistent 24/7 world (subscription).
