EverQuest Currency: Coins Are Abstract, Not Physical Materials

In EverQuest, the currency system (Platinum, Gold, Silver, Copper — PP / GP / SP / CP) is a purely abstract numerical representation.

  • No Material Definition: The game lore, item descriptions, or manuals never state what metal, alloy, or substance the coins are minted from.
  • No Physical Properties: Coins have no weight (unless using a specific weight-modifying mod/server rule), volume, or visual distinctness beyond the UI icon.
  • Mechanic Only: They exist solely as integers in the character database: `currency_platinum`, `currency_gold`, etc. 1 PP = 10 GP = 100 SP = 1000 CP.

Roleplay / Lore Context

Players/GMs often invent their own flavor: "Norathian Standard Minted Platinum," "Faydark Gold," "Kunzar Tribal Copper." But this is headcanon, not coded reality. The Banker NPCs simply increment/decrement numbers.

So: They are made of data. Pure math. No ore, no mint, no metallurgy.
