Strategies for Waiting in One Spot While Hunting or Gaming

There is no single named strategy called "waiting." The tactics depend entirely on the context:

Real-World Hunting (Animals)

  • Concealment / Camouflage: Breaking your outline, using blinds, ghillie suits, or natural cover.
  • Scent Control: Wind direction awareness, scent-eliminating sprays, carbon-lined clothing.
  • Sound Discipline: Slow movement, quiet gear, controlled breathing.
  • Observation / Glassing: Using binoculars/spotting scopes to detect movement before it detects you.
  • Patience / Stillness: The core discipline—minimizing movement for hours.
  • Calling / Decoys: Actively luring the animal to your position.

Competitive Games (FPS, Battle Royale, Tactical Shooters)

  • Holding an Angle / Angle Clearing: Pre-aiming a choke point where enemies must appear.
  • Camping / Static Defense: Controlling a high-value area (site, high ground, loot).
  • Ambush / Flank Watch: Waiting on a flanking route to catch rotators.
  • Information Gathering: Listening for footsteps, utility usage, or drone/cam intel without peeking.
  • Economy / Resource Management: Saving equipment/utility for a later round or critical moment.

Strategy Games (RTS, 4X, Turn-Based)

  • Turtling: Fortifying a position, building defenses, waiting for opponent to overextend.
  • Booming: Focusing entirely on economy/tech while defending minimally, "waiting" for a superior late-game army.
  • Zone Control: Stationing units to deny map resources or vision.

Universal Principles

  • Situational Awareness: Constantly updating your mental map of threats and opportunities.
  • Predictive Planning: Anticipating opponent actions and preparing counters.
  • Trigger Discipline: Not acting prematurely; waiting for the optimal moment.

The "best" strategy is the one matched to your specific game, role, and current situation.
