Animal Crossing: New Horizons—You Cannot Have 8-9 Playable Islands (Hard Limit)

Impossible. Animal Crossing: New Horizons hard-limits the game to one persistent player island + 7 dream/visit slots = 8 total in rotation. You cannot create, own, or expand to 8–9 playable islands on one Switch/profile.

What "Islands" Actually Exist

  • Your Island: The only one you build, live on, and save to.
  • Mystery Tours (Dodo Airlines): Random resource islands (1 per trip, not saved).
  • Dream Islands: Visit other players' islands via Dream Address (DA-XXXX-XXXX). No changes saved.
  • Local/Online Visits: Fly to friends' islands. Their progress = theirs.
  • Harv's Island (Plaza): Photopia studio—fixed location.

Why the Limit Exists

  • Save file structure: One AnimalCrossing folder per user profile.
  • Nintendo's design: One island = shared household experience (up to 8 residents).
  • Cloud saves: Disabled for ACNH (anti-time-travel).

Creative Alternatives

  1. Zone your island: Create "districts" (beach town, forest village, city, farm) separated by rivers/cliffs.
  2. Second profile = second island: New Switch user → new island. Cannot interact with main profile (no item transfer, no shared catalog).
  3. Dream Suite: Upload your island (DA code), visit others' designs for inspiration.
  4. Time travel (controversial): Change system clock to speed seasons/events. No new islands.

If You Truly Need Multiple Persistent Islands

  • Buy a second Switch + second copy – Only way for true parallel islands.
  • Wait for Animal Crossing sequel – Rumored for Switch 2; may expand structure.

One island per profile. Make it massive, themed, and yours.
